NECA 2009 Seattle Delivers Results for Electrical Contractors

The convention and trade show of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) wrapped up an event full of education, inspiration and innovation on Sept. 15. More than 6,900 industry professionals took in the exposition, technical workshops, management seminars and special guest speakers during the three-day event.

“As our industry shifts to meet new market conditions and customer demands, NECA 2009 Seattle provided a forum to discuss the impact these changes are having on how we do business,” said NECA president Rex Ferry.

More than 50 pre-convention and management workshops focused on workforce training, smart tools for productivity, safety instruction, and new market development, especially green energy solutions. Industry experts led sessions on the building trends and technology shaping electrical construction today, including energy auditing and lean construction.

“I learned a lot at the education sessions about what to expect in the coming months and years, but what mattered the most to me at NECA 2009 Seattle was the opportunity to meet other contractors,” said Marion A. Hayes, III, CEO, BRK Electrical Contractors LLC, St. Louis. “It’s a chance to learn from individuals from other areas, ask what strategies have worked for them, and maybe form a business relationship.”

Hayes also pointed out the business opportunities offered by the NECA Show, the industry’s leading exposition, with over 240 exhibitors featuring products and services specifically for electrical contractors. The Northwest Naval Band, sponsored by Helmets to Hardhats, opened 2009 NECA Show with great fanfare on Sept. 12.

In addition to the trade show and educational opportunities, NECA 2009 Seattle also hosted NECA's student summit, finalist presentations and winner announcement in the Green Energy Challenge, and inspirational presentations by former Starbucks president and blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer.

Recaps and photos from the event are posted on the NECA 2009 Seattle website, blog.necaconvention.org, as well as information about NECA 2010 Boston, Oct. 2-5, 2010.
